Hedyeh Elahinia

Hedyeh Elahinia is a third-year medical student at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Ohio. She has clinical interests in women’s health, obstetrics-gynecology, and preventative healthcare, and has pursued her interest in Islam at the Baitul Ilm Islamic Seminary as well as through an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies. She’s involved with her local Muslim community through the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, where she helps to run a bilingual weekly Rumi Reading Group, focusing on the language and Islamic ethics of Rumi’s Masnavi. At UTCOM, she co-founded and helps to publish The Lumen, a semesterly print and digital arts and literary magazine focused on the medical humanities. Through the IIM program, she hopes to deepen her understanding of Islamic bioethics and Muslim public health issues, especially pertaining to women’s health and obstetrics-gynecology.
